Artist statement: Informed and imagined based on many layers. Crystal Matrix references some ideology of architectural styles such as industrial, modernism, and the Bauhaus Movement. She also references the random, often seemingly chaotic formations found within nature, as well as the rhythmically unordered, yet perfectly structured and balanced composition of early jazz pieces. It references as much as the time it takes to create; that which a random yet naturally, tenuously balanced formation which should be instinctively experienced and contemplated with more than just “natural” sight. At a micro level, the digital interactive layer helps bring this contemplation to play as we incorporate the often-inaudible sound of crystalline structures forming, growing and colliding from microscopic to macroscopic scales. Further as reference to scale, we are reduced to an atomic level to watch and interact between these crystalline structures as they multiply and combine to fill this atomic void to produce our Crystal Matrix. At macro level the aesthetic mimic crystalline nature from cliffs sheers and mountain-scapes through to stylised detail of structured ice crystals and cut gemstones. Integrated lighting effects enhancement, inform and accentuate the sharp and crisp edges, bold forms and composition that is the CRYSTAL MATRIX.
