a bit about the piece… The life.e.quatic series is inspired by the natural aquatic environment and the creatures within. My interpretation of the complexity of structures, vivid colours and intricate patterning observed in a variety of marine creatures as well as a reference to man’s influence over the environment. This meshing of aquatic and terrestrial influences forms a symbolic representation of how coral and its surrounding ecosystems, once autonomous, must now cling to us in the hopes of maintaining their continued existence.
A bit of my view… As a society, we have never before had the opportunity to be so connected, so actively observant, that now we have the means of a front row seat on our impact, our active destruction, upon the environment. In being honest, I am not an environmental artist but I do observe, and worry about, our effect on it… though I am not blameless, I still buy processed packaged food & drinks, drive a car & travel whenever I've the opportunity. I know I add to the problem with my convienient living, I only differ in that I readily admit I do damage… I also know I help in some ways as well....Yes, every little bit helps, however our other every little bit does damage as well… and I only hope that the animals that coinhabit this planet can survive us.
A bit about the materials… The works on show comprise a mix of acrylic on canvas, digitally and analogue (freehand) extruded plastic filament, 3d printing techniques as well as hand-built and cured teeth, tails and claws.
A bit about me… My interests include painting, sculpture and sculptured wearables. I have an extensive working background within the fashion industry and initially influenced by garment design and construction processes, I now utilises similar principals as well as adapted 3D technologies to produce much of my sculptural work. I have also become an avid painter with a focus on reimagined landscapes and portraits, often meshed with layered characterisations. As of late, collaboration with other medium artists has also become an important part of my art life in letting other creatives enhance my works with their own design forte… this has been a wholly rewarding experience. I discovered Karen Jerzyk’s work and fell in love with her story enriched photography. Another photographer I work with is Leslie Liu, another obsessed creative who has access to an intriguing world of burlesque and other performance artists. Zoran, my partner also works hard experimenting and learning coding languages for AR development, App creation and 3D technology hardware; they , each help and compliment in adding visual layers to my art pieces.
